IK Coupons script

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Daniel of Artistic Opinions has written a little script for putting the current IK promotion on your website automatically.  You can see it in action on his site.

This is a great little script for keeping a coupon on your site.

He says ‘Everyone is welcome to use it, no charge :)

Here are his instructions on how to use it:

To use it, there’s a two-step process. First, you’ll insert the following code where you want the promotion box to appear:

<script src=”http://www.artopinions.com/script/ik-promo-rotation.js” type=”text/javascript”></script>
<noscript>
<div style=”text-align: center;”><strong>20% off</strong> museum and framed art!<br />Use Imagekind coupon code: <strong>museum20</strong> when checking out.<br />Expires 12/31/07</div>
</noscript>

Then, set your style. You can make the box look however you want by using the built-in CSS class “promospace”. If you’re unsure how to style using CSS, post here and I’ll give a brief rundown :)

It works like this – during the times that IK runs a special promotion (like now), I will be updating the script with the details of the deal. The script is controlled by a date function, so the special promotion will only ever show during the proper dates. When there is no special promotion going on, a default coupon code will display (the museum20 code).

 He also adds:

Regarding the CSS, I should have explained it up front, but it was getting late and I took a shortcut ;)

I’ll lay out three basic options, and folks can research CSS a bit for more ideas. Let’s center the text of the promo, make the background of the box black, and the text white. In your <head> section of your HTML page, you can add the following code:

<style type=”text/css”>
<!–
.promospace {
background: #000000;
color: #ffffff;
text-align: center;
}
//–>
</style>

If you have your own CSS stylesheet, you can just add the lines from .promospace { down to } in that file.

CafewishAds updated

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Just heard from Jim of Cafewish that the CafewishAds have now have the ability to display a grid from 1 x 1 to 6 x 8! Plus there is now a preview function to see it before you copy/paste it.

CafewishAds work well for highliting your Cafepress designs on your blog or website. They are also great for affiliates. Simply enter keywords of your choice, select the size ad, and get your code.

Here’s and example showing ‘peas’ designs from my Cafepress shop:

Making a Landing Page for ads

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Adam of Buy Tees, in response to a question about a page of women in law enforcement designs, had this to say about making a landing page when using adwords:

Better… directing someone to just your shop is always bad. Too many
people do this and too many people fail.

What I’d setup is a page that shows a product and allows them to
purchase it right then and there. I’d display my most popular police
design on my most popular women’s t-shirt.

Then below that I’d have a few popular alternatives, but not a lot of
alternatives. You want the person to purchase, not look around. So
what you do is target your advert so that it’s exactly what the person
searched for on Google.

* De clutter the page and remove that entire right hand column.
* Show a product and make it available to purchase.
* Show your return and privacy policy.
* Show contact information
* Provide an incentive to purchase now e.g. a coupon.
* Remove unnecessary links. Strip it down to the basics. The basics
are to make the sale. So they need to land and be able to buy without
hunting.
* Most of all make your landing page equal what your ad is advertising.

Looking at your landing page doesn’t tell me much about what I’m
looking to buy. I can’t see the price, I can’t see the type of t-shirt
I’m purchasing. Landing pages aren’t about providing a page with 10s
of links.. they are about making a conversion. So if you can rectify
that you’d be on to a winner.

In addition Adam says:

Tweaking landing pages is very much an ongoing process while you are
running an ad on Adwords. Things like changing colours of buttons can
increase your conversion rate.

That is one thing I forgot to mention.. call to action. You need
something on the page to grab the person’s attention into moving
towards that purchase. A bright coloured “buy now” button for example.

If we could track conversions easily with CafePress, I would say run
two ads with two different landing pages and see which one performs
the best.

Thanks Adam for letting us post this!  Great information!
